Capitol Peak, considered one of the most dangerous 14ers in Colorado, was the site of a fatal accident on Jul 15, 2017 |
Jake Lord, a 25-year-old from Parker, Colorado, and his climbing partner were attempting the direct ridge linking Mt. Daly and Capitol Peak, a non-standard variation that has become more popular in recent years, when a large boulder he was clinging to broke loose, causing him to fall several hundred feet.
According to a report in the Aspen Times, the nature of Lord's injuries suggested the rock, which his partner estimated to have weighed around 200 pounds, may have landed on him at some point during the fall.
Lord is survived by his fiancee who traveled to Aspen after the terrible tragedy to be with his family.
